Last month, Sutton REALTOR® Corwin Kwan took time to give back to his community by donating essential items–clothing and toiletries–to Squamish Helping Hands, a local organization dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and housing instability.
For Corwin, the visit was more than just a drop-off. It was a chance to connect with the compassionate team behind the organization and learn about the breadth of services they provide. In partnership with BC Housing, Squamish Helping Hands offers emergency shelter, transitional housing, and food security programs, while also supporting long-term wellness and independence through job training, mentorship, and health-focused initiatives.
With the rising cost of living pushing more individuals and families into crisis, the work of Squamish Helping Hands is more vital than ever. In 2024 alone, the organization provided over 21,000 nights of supported housing, repurposed 107,000 kg of rescued food into nutritious meals, and facilitated nearly 10,000 food bank visits–an 80% increase from the previous year. Their community hub also delivered over 52,000 meals to vulnerable youth, 2,700 Meals on Wheels to seniors and individuals with mobility challenges, and hosted 284 patient visits at their on-site primary care clinic. These efforts are helping create a healthier, more equitable Squamish–one connection at a time.
“It was an honour to learn more about the work they’re doing,” Corwin shared. “You can really feel the impact of their programs, not just in meeting immediate needs, but in helping people regain stability and confidence.”
