Real Estate Term
Counter-Offer
A response to an offer that proposes different terms, essentially rejecting the original offer.
What is Counter-Offer?
A counter-offer is a response to an offer that changes one or more terms — most often price, closing date, or included items — which legally rejects the original offer and puts a new one on the table. Buyers and sellers may exchange several counter-offers before agreeing, and either side can walk away at any point. Each counter-offer resets the negotiation, so the original offer can no longer simply be accepted.
